One creative world

Elana Thornton writes and creates as Belle Thornton, the children’s author and visual artist behind Belle by Thornton — a creative practice shaped by the philosophy BELLE: Bold Emotion, Light, Layers & Essence.

Her children’s books begin with experiences that can feel very large to a child: worrying about trying something new, not knowing how, getting something wrong, or wondering whether to try again. Rather than offering easy answers, her stories create room for reassurance, conversation, courage, and possibility.

Her visual art explores many of those same ideas through movement, transformation, perspective, light, and layered form. Whether working with stories or images, Belle is drawn to the moment when something begins to shift and a new way of seeing becomes possible.

Belle is based in Connecticut, where she continues to develop new books, visual collections, and opportunities to connect with readers through author visits and community events.

Behind Belle by Thornton

Encouragement, support, and a remarkable reading voice

Behind Belle by Thornton is the steady encouragement, practical help, and wholehearted support of Belle’s husband, who has been an important part of the journey from idea to finished book, artwork, and event. With his exceptional reading voice, he often joins Belle at in-person author events, helping bring her stories to life for children.
